Maureen Harper is an ASHA certified Speech Language Pathologist who is licensed in the states of NJ, NY and Colorado. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences from Purdue University and her Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Northern Colorado. Maureen’s commitment to this career is both professional and personal. She lost half of her hearing in both ears when she was 17. She has experienced what it is like to be on both sides of the table, as a client and a therapist. During the past 20 years she has successfully worked with people across the life span from many different cultures, countries and ethnicities in their pursuit of better communication. She has provided assessment, diagnosis and therapy services in private practices, schools, a clinic and a rehabilitation hospital in the U.S.A., England, Japan, and Thailand.

Maureen is experienced in treating articulation, auditory processing, cleft palate speech, critical thinking, executive functions, fluency: cluttering and stuttering, hearing loss, language delays and disorders, literacy, memory, motor speech disorders, phonology, pragmatics, swallowing, voice, and word finding.  Maureen’s practice is based on helping each individual achieve his or her functional communication potential, resulting in greater independence. She is certified in LSVT LOUD®, Lessac-Madsen Resonant Voice Therapy and Adventures in Voice for Children. She has received training in Paradoxical Vocal Fold Motion (PVFM), Accent Reduction, LSVT®-Parkinson’s Disease and Swallowing, Integrated Listening System- iLs, and the Lidcombe® Program for Childhood Stuttering. She develops individual therapy programs for each client that incorporates the latest research findings, and evidence based practices to optimize his or her growth. Maureen has taken the Sandra Coulson Orofacial Myology Training course for OMT therapy and is now on the national database for OMT. She also took a course on Executive Function and how it relates with Dyslexia, Autism and ADHD and ADD- this was a regular CEU course, is now certified in the Lidcombe Stuttering therapy and on the national database as well as being trained in Buteyko Breathing training and incorporating it into stuttering, voice and swallowing therapy. She was also trained at Harvard’s teaching hospital during a 1 week course to work on sleep disturbances such as sleep apnea, snoring.

Maureen is very happy to be a part of the Pediatric Therapeutics multidiscipline team. She looks forward to working with you and your child in making communication possibilities become actualities.

Maureen lives in Montclair with her husband. They are the parents of three daughters and one son who are grown. Fortunately they come home often and bring their friends and families.
