Picky Eater? Problem Feeder?

October, 2012

Are mealtimes frequently a battle ground?  Does your child resist trying new foods?  Have difficulty transitioning to new tastes and different textures?

Anne Toolajian, MA, CCC-SLP and Missy Briody, MS, OTR are currently offering a snack group for preschoolers, ages 3-5 on Tuesdays from 11-12, following the SOS Approach to Feeding (Sensory-Oral-Sequential) where playing with food is encouraged, interacting with food is modeled and snack and mealtimes are social and fun.  The group participants begin with a sensory based activity in the sensory gym followed by food preparation, discussion, exploration and play.

Through demonstration and discussion, participants touch and play with food which aids in desensitization and improved tolerance for touch, smell and taste.  By following a hierarchy of multiple steps, participants build confidence, skill, and interest in eating.  Groups generally run in a series of 12 sessions although new members are welcome at any time.

Please contact Anne or Missy at 973.635.0202, anne.toolajian@pediatrictherapeutics.org or missy.briody@pediatrictherapeutics.org for more information or to join the group.
